Florida State College at Jacksonville’s current operations may equate with operations as they existed at Florida Community College at Jacksonville in some circumstances, but not in all.

Credentials and Academic Programs

Associate in Arts (A.A.) — the “university transfer degree” — accepted by any public university or college in Florida, and many private institutions. FCCJ offers nearly 80 transfer majors. About 40 percent of the student population is in the A.A. degree program.

New Bachelor’s degrees offered in 2009 — The Florida State Board of Education approved three new bachelor’s degrees for Florida Community College in January 2009. The new degrees include a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Safety Management and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology Management. The College expects the new programs will be operating by Fall 2009. The new degrees join the College’s first four, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Networking; Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Fire Science Management.

Associate in Science (A.S.) — skills-training programs that lead to immediate high-wage, high-skill jobs or transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) — faster track to today’s rewarding jobs.

Technology Credentials — advanced technology diplomas and applied technology certificates to supplement associate degree programs.

Certificates — shorter-duration certifications for career entry or advancement; Florida State College at Jacksonville is eleventh in nation and first in Florida in one-year certificates/graduates.

Corporate Training and Continuing Education — hundreds of professional development courses and short-duration programs to enhance skills and abilities of current workers.

• 17 percent of students are in credit certificate, vocational and job preparation, and continuing workforce education programs.
• 6,062 Florida Community College at Jacksonville students have earned degrees or technical certificates for the 2007–08 academic year.

High School Completion, English Language and Basic Education — Adult Education, Adult High School, English as a Second Language, General Educational Development, Polytechnic Academy (high school credential linked to career development)

• 15 percent of FCCJ students are in Adult Education and ESL programs.

Special Academic Programs

Accelerated and online programs offer faster and flexible course delivery to accommodate busy schedules. Online and blended classroom/online formats are offered in many programs.

Military education programs serve the education and training needs of military service personnel and their families, federal government employees, and residents at area military installations through distance learning, on-site and classroom environments.

English as a Second Language offers instruction in speech, vocabulary and reading fundamentals to non-native speakers of English so they can learn and improve English skills, adapt to life in America, prepare for coursework and job placement.

Study Abroad programs allow students to broaden their educational experience by traveling to other countries and studying a variety of disciplines.

Dual Enrollment enables high school students to earn college credits while completing high school requirements in both academic and career areas.

Pathways Career Academy (Public Charter School), a “rescue and turnaround” program for dropouts, offering high school completion integrated with postsecondary education and training, leading to high-wage/high-skill careers.
